Meelup Regional Park information
An extension to the coastal walk trail has been completed in Meelup Park Dunsborough, making about 5kms of constructed surfaced walk trails in the park.
The constructed path now extends from the edge of the developed part of Dunsborough at Hurford Street for 800m to beyond Curtis Bay. Built on an old four-wheel-drive track which had been badly eroded, the track was repaired with course rock and later surfaced with limestone by Benchmark Building Contractors of Bunbury and paid for with a grant of $8,777 from Lotterywest and matching funds from the Busselton Shire.
It is a beautiful walk through bush, with the sea never more than a few meters away.
The Meelup Park Committee, responsible for running and maintaining Meelup Park, says this new trail is suitable for families and prams, and perhaps even wheelchairs.
The project will be completed very soon with a rock stairway to provide access to the beach below the path. The new trail is built for pedestrians and is too narrow for push bikes and motor bikes, which are in any case prohibited.
Shire rangers a few weeks ago warned that they were stepping up patrols of the park to deal with offenders.
There are now about 5km of constructed surfaced walk trails in the park, some of it with disability access and most of it easy walking on flat grades.
