Master Plan for Foreshore Development - January 13, 2012
Plans for the revitalisation of the Busselton Foreshore have made significant progress.
The Draft Busselton Foreshore Master Plan has been approved for public consultation. Members of the public are now invited to view the plan and submit feedback to the Shire.
The area captured on the Master Plan extends beyond that initially incorporated on the Concept Plan which was approved by Council in October last year after a lengthy community consultation process. It provides direction on how this important area will be developed noting that the terms and timeframe for development is dependent on future funding.
Mayor Ian Stubbs said: “The Master Plan represents the next level of detail and we expect members of the public to be keenly interested in it. It covers an area from King Street to Ford Road; bounded by Geographe Bay Road and Marine Terrace.
It’s consistent with the vision of the Busselton Foreshore as the principal playground and recreation space for residents and visitors. It also incorporates planning principles and development standards, identifies future leasehold sites and makes provision for foreshore reserve areas.”
The Shire has secured funding for this major community project through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions programme. The first stage of the development is well underway with construction of the foreshore seawall now complete.
Public submissions on the Busselton Foreshore Master Plan can be lodged until February 21, 2012. Copies of the Master Plan are available at the Busselton Library on Stanley Street, Busselton and the Dunsborough Library, Naturaliste Community Centre, Dunsborough Lakes Drive, Dunsborough. A copy is also available for viewing at the front counter of the Shire Offices, Southern Drive Busselton.
The Master Plan is available on the Shire website www.busselton.wa.gov.au. Submission forms are available at the Shire offices or can be downloaded from the Shire website.
Following the public submission period and the review of submissions, the Master Plan will be brought back to the Council for consideration of final approval. The Master Plan may also be viewed here
