Shire Welcomes Newest Citizens - 20 January, 2010
Twenty two City of Busselton residents are among 16,000 people who will become citizens at more than 300 ceremonies across the Nation during Australia Day celebrations next week.
Our City of Busselton's newest citizens come from countries including USA, Brazil, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Spain, France and Switzerland.
The ceremony will take place at 7.30am on January 26, as part of the City of Busselton's Australia Day celebration.
City of Busselton President, Ian Stubbs, will conduct the Naturalisation Ceremony assisted by 2010 Young Ambassador Winners and the Hon Troy Buswell MLA.
"It gives me great pleasure to be the first to officially welcome our newest Australian Citizens," said Cr Stubbs. "Our Nation benefits greatly from the rich cultures and traditions of all its citizens and I am sure that our newest citizens will help shape the future of Australia and the City of Busselton."
"Not only is this a special moment in the lives of those people who are swearing an oath to Australia, it's a great opportunity for all of us to come together to celebrate our fabulous country and the wonderful life-style we have here in the South West."
The Naturalisation Ceremony is part of a morning of Australia Day events organised by the Rotary Club of Busselton. The event starts at Signal Park at 6.30am with a march down Queen Street to Rotary Park.
Following the Naturalisation Ceremony and the presentation of the Premier's Australia Active Citizenship Awards, a giant Aussie Breakfast will be served.
Media are welcome to attend the event.
