Shire Releases Locke Estate Concepts for Comment (18th July, 2007)
An eight week comment period commences on 19 July, which will allow the community and stakeholders to have a further say on three concepts that have arisen from a wide ranging consultation program undertaken by consultants Connell Wagner. Initially, an advertising period of four weeks was planned, however following an application by some community members, Council agreed to support the suggestion and extend the period to eight weeks.
Following the advertising period the submissions will be collated and analysed, then incorporated into the consultant's final report to Council later in the year, according to the Shire's Director of Community and Organisational Development, Matthew Smith.
The program has included background research based on the various social, demographic and environmental issues associated with the land, together with the legal and planning considerations.
"The Locke Estate consultation program has been one of the most successful to date in terms of community response and involvement. We are urging the community to continue their involvement by having a look at the plans, and telling us which option they believe meets the needs of the community now and into the future" Mr. Smith said.
The final report and recommendations will be considered by Council prior to a formal recommendation on the future of the reserve being submitted to the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure.
Ends.
