City of Busselton Council Receives State's Offer (27th July, 2007)
The City of Busselton will ensure it has explored all options in respect to the rebuild of the Busselton Jetty and received a commitment from the Federal Government towards the project before Council considers the State Government's offer towards the Jetty Rebuild.
"We thank the Minister for the South West, Mark McGowan and the State for its offer, received at a councillor briefing session on Tuesday, and assistance over the past 12 months in investigating this option to rebuild a significant community and tourism icon", said Shire President, Bev Clarke.
"Council will formally consider the State Government's offer of a contribution towards the Jetty rebuild upon receipt of the offer in writing and an indication of commitment from the Federal Government. We will then work through the necessary project details and their implications for our community."
"The Jetty is fundamental to the City of Busselton's tourism industry so Council needs to investigate and understand all options available to it as part of the process."
"The Shire is committed to ensuring the Jetty is sustainable into the future giving it the opportunity to remain an iconic tourism attraction for future generations", Cr. Clarke said.
ENDS.
