Keeping the City of Busselton Beautiful - Dob in a Dumper - 17 March 2009
The City of Busselton is encouraging community members to dispose of their litter responsibly and respectfully.
Due to a number of complaints from construction companies and residents, the Shire would like to issue a friendly reminder that according to the Litter Act 1979, it is an offence to discard your litter in the following ways:

In a private bin or skip bin placed on a building site without permission from the owner. $200 On- the-spot fine will be issued if the offender is seen/reported.

Disposing of household or commercial waste in public litter bins. $200 Infringement Notice or court action

To wilfully or accidentally set fire to the contents of a public litter bin. $400 fine

Illegally dump any sort of rubbish on bushland, private land or in any public space. The most common of these offences is bags of garden prunings or old electrical appliances on vacant land. $200 Infringement Notice or court action

Abandoning supermarket trolleys outside the grounds of a shopping centre. $200 On-the-spot fine or court action

Disposing of litter in streets, parks, at picnic grounds or on roadsides. $200 Infringement notice or court action

Discarding litter in our waterways, rivers, lakes and oceans. $200 Infringement notice or court action
If you see someone littering or dumping in the areas mentioned above please call the City of Busselton Ranger Services on 9781 0444. You can also become a registered Litter Reporter with Keep Australia Beautiful. Offences are reported to KABC by giving date, time, location, vehicle registration and other details. Busselton City of Busselton's Senior Ranger, Owen Anderton, said "We are lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Let's keep it that way by dobbing in a dumper as littering is a costly problem for both organisations and communities".
