Performing Arts & Creative Industries Centre Public Input Requested - 8 July 2009
The City of Busselton is seeking input from the local community as to where a future Performing Arts and Creative Industries Centre might be located.
The Shire recently conducted a feasibility study for a proposed Performing Arts and Creative Industries Centre in the City of Busselton. The feasibility study assessed six possible sites which had been previously been identified through the Cultural Plan and Leisure Services Plan, or were identified on the basis of location, land assembly potential, in addition to suggestions from members of the public.
The six sites, as ranked in the feasibility study, were:
- Signal Park;
- Foreshore Reserve, near the Jetty;
- Car park reserve at Stanley Street;
- Current Shire Building site;
- Vasse;
- Current Busselton Hospital site.
The feasibility report can be viewed in hard copy at the front counter of the City of Busselton's Offices or accessed electronically at: http://www.busselton.wa.gov.au/node/3224.
At the Meeting of 10th June 2009, the Council resolved, in part, to:
- submit Signal Park and Barnard Park to the Busselton Foreshore Redevelopment Group as possible sites for the purpose of community consultation on the foreshore development; and
- invite expressions of community interest for possible alternative sites, other than those listed.
Suggestions of alternative sites are now invited from the public and any submission should include:
- Specific location details of a suggested site;
- Benefits of the suggested site; and
- Name and contact details of the person making the submission.
Shire President Wes Hartley said "It was an exciting feasibility study for members of the community to become involved in, which would define much of our future commitment to the creative and artistic arts".
Submissions should be marked to the attention of Lorna Secrett, Cultural Planning Officer and forwarded by 4.00pm Friday 7th August 2009 to City of Busselton, Locked Bag 1, Busselton WA 6280 or by email to lorna.secrett@busselton.wa.gov.au.
