Busselton Library & Community Resource Centre Nearing Fruition - 28 August 2009

  • Media release

Busselton Shire Council on 12th August unanimously resolved upon a proposal to build a Community Resource Centre and expand the existing Busselton Library site.

The Council's decision enables community groups to now seek funding from Lottery West for the building of a facility to host a range of local community and not-for-profit organisations.  It will also include a purpose-built facility to house local studies, history, archival and family history material.  The proposed centre will additionally offer convenient access for the whole community, being centrally located in the CBD close to many other existing essential services.

Busselton Shire President, Cr Wes Hartley, said "The expansion of the existing Library will ensure that the needs of our dynamic community are met well into the future.  The inclusion of the archival, family and local history material will be an especially pleasing outcome".

Should the funding applications to Lottery West be successful, the next stage of the project will involve community groups becoming engaged in the preparation of a detailed design which will assist in the fulfilment of the vision for the long-anticipated community resource centre.  Both the Shire Council and the Community Reference Group look forward to seeking input from the wider community, so as to ensure that this exciting development remains sympathetic to the community's aspirations.
