Recyclables are not dumped (28 January 2005)
MEDIA RELEASE
In the 27 January 2005 issue of the Busselton-Margaret Times, a story titled 'Costs too high to continue recycling' by Janine Carter incorrectly stated 'that more than half of the household waste collected in the yellow-top recycling bins throughout the South west was being dumped in landfill'.
This is incorrect. Although some commercial contractors may be doing this, all recyclables collected from yellow top bins in the City of Busselton are fully recycled. They are transported to a Multi Unit Recycling Facility (MURF) in Picton (near Bunbury) where they are sorted into their various components, packed and transported for recycling.
This error in your reporting has lead to numerous ratepayers ringing both the Shire and Green Recycling (the Contractors) complaining about this waste of money and resources.
The Shire wishes to assure ratepayers that recyclables collected in the yellow top bins ARE NOT dumped into landfill.
End.
