Busselton Shire President Carries Torch for World Harmony Run (23 June 2008)

  WORLD HARMONY RUN 2008

  Shire of Busselton's president carries the torch for peace

The world's longest running relay is coming to Busselton.

The World Harmony Run, founded by Sri Chinmoy is the largest and longest event of its kind, including 100 countries around the world. Previous torch bearers include Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Cathy Freeman. National Patron for World Harmony Run 2008 is Olympic Running Legend and Mayor of Gold Coast City, Queensland Ron Clarke and tomorrow Busselton Shire President Wes Hartley will be added to the list of community leaders as he carries the torch from Mitchell Park to the Equinox Café.

The World Harmony Run strives to spread goodwill among people of all nations. This global torch relay will unite a team of runners from 16 nations, 10 Busselton Senior High School students and one shire president. The torch will cross 15,000 kilometres around the continent making it the longest route in the Run's 21-year history.

Tomorrow (Tuesday 24th June 2008) The Shire of Busselton will be hosting a leg of the World Harmony Run 2008. Busselton Shire President Cr Wes Hartley will carry the flame of hope from Mitchell Park to the Equinox Café at 2:20pm.

Join us tomorrow as Cr Hartley takes one more of the 10 million steps around the continent.
