City of Busselton Hits the Pavement to Help Set a World Record (25th August 2008)
The City of Busselton is inviting all community members to slip on their sneakers and take part in The Giant Walk - Australia's Guinness World Record Attempt on Monday 1st September 2008. Walkers are asked to assemble at the Shire Administration Offices, Southern Drive at 11.50am.
Shire President, Cr Wes Hartley, who lists walking as one of his hobbies will be one of the many local Busselton identities working on his "Cliff Young Shuffle" on the day. Cr Hartley said "The City of Busselton in conjunction with the Busselton Chamber of Commerce is holding a local version of this walk at the City of Busselton Administration Offices from 11.50am and I look forward to walking with our community members to help set a world record".
Thousands of Western Australians are being offered the chance to add their names to The Guinness World Record Book by signing up to join in the largest walk. Set to take place at 12noon on Be Active WA Day, Monday 1st September 2008, The Giant Walk will attempt to break the world record for the most number of people walking simultaneously for at least one kilometre.
Cr Hartley said "Western Australia broke the record in 2006 and then the Canadians broke the record Australia set last year. To break the record, Australia needs over 231,635 people to walk at the same time on 1 September 2008 and I am confident the City of Busselton will do its part to help achieve this."
All members of the local community are invited are invited to participate in this walk on Monday 1st September.
