GUIDING BUSSELTON'S STREETSCAPE INTO THE FUTURE - 21 OCTOBER 2008
The Manual will be used by the Shire for the selection of street furniture, paving, signage, street lights, colour schemes and tree planting.
As each area of the town centre is upgraded, items from the Manual can be incorporated, helping to build cohesive character in public places over time.
The groundwork from a design workshop for the Peel Terrace upgrade was taken to the Busselton 2020 Project Group and unanimously endorsed as a basis for a town centre palette.
A theme of ‘Ocean to River' was formed during the process, where the colour palette can be used to strengthen a different character for three zones identified as:
- Ocean zone
- Town zone
- River zone
The colour themes reflect the traditional natural and man made materials identified within the town and will provide guidance on colour for buildings, roofs, general paintwork and street furniture.
The Shire is currently updating public areas by using the colour palette on existing street furniture and light poles in the CBD.
The 2020 Project Group is a working group, made up of industry representatives and community members; elected members: Shire President Cr. Wes Hartley and Cr Ross Bromell and Shire staff, who share a vision for the Busselton town centre as ‘a heritage rich, coastal urban lifestyle with distinctive ocean, town and river character. Our people, activities, environment and design will form the heart of the CBD where businesses can succeed and enhance the vitality of the town'.
