Busselton Geographe Leisure Centre Scoops State Awards - 19th November 2008
The Manager of The Geographe Leisure Centre, Tony Wear, said "The Living Longer - Living Stronger Program aims to improve cardiovascular strength, balance and flexibility. The program inspires our seniors to achieve improved health and quality of life".
The Living Longer Living - Stronger Program was formed by the Council on the Ageing several years ago and is now implemented in over 110 locations nationally for people aged over 50 years. Not only has the GLC picked up the Best Country Provider award, but instructor Lyn Bear was also awarded a certificate as a finalist in the ‘Best Instructor' Category.
Mr Wear said, "Lyn's commitment to her participants in this program has made us all here at the centre proud. Lyn has the natural ability to motivate and ensure that participants get the results they are working towards. Lyn and her fitness team have worked very hard over the year to establish this program in Busselton and fully deserve their success".
Shire President, Cr Wes Hartley, said "As the Geographe Leisure Centre celebrates its tenth year of operation, currently attracting more than 240,000 users of its facilities annually, this award is a great achievement and testimony to the hard work and dedication of the Leisure Centre's staff to the health and leisure needs of the community of the City of Busselton".
The Geographe Leisure Centre runs The Living Longer - Living Stronger Program three times a week with the participants enjoying a great work out whilst enjoying a very social occasion.
