Family Fun

Submitted by Shire of Busselton on 23 September, 2006 - 21:37.

The region is an ideal destination for families, offering a range of different activities, attractions, tours, accommodation and restaurants to suit the whole family. Geographe Bay’s beaches from Busselton through to Dunsborough provide calm, safe water for families to enjoy. Water activities such as snorkelling, swimming, boating, fishing, body boarding and diving are popular in the area for this reason.

Busselton

The Nautical Lady Entertainment Park on the beachfront at the base of the jetty is a favourite for many children as it features a giant waterslide and lots of other activities. Also available in or very near the townsite of Busselton is Fun-O-Rama, Golf 'n' Fun, Broadwater Par 3 Golf Course and Busselton Archery Park. Yoganup Playground and skatepark near the Busselton beachfront offers excellent play equipment and barbecue facilities. Remember ‘going to the drives’? Busselton’s Drive-in theatre is open during summer and busy holiday periods.

Dunsborough

Country Life Farm, Quindalup Fauna Park and The Sunflowers Animal Farm give young children the chance to interact with wildlife and other farm yard animals. Mirravale Riding School will allow you to learn to ride and enjoy some of the regions beautiful scenery at the same time. Simmo's Icecreamery and Paddy's Sweets are favourite destinations those with a sweet tooth! A number of artist studios and galleries are found in or close to Dunsborough – ask at the Dunsborough Visitor Centre for brochures and maps.

Yallingup

Body boarding or surfing at Yallingup or neighbouring Smiths Beach is a great day out for families with older children. Surfing lessons from knowledgeable locals are available. Head inland to galleries and artisan studios, and visitors are bound to enjoy shearing demonstrations, working sheepdogs, old farm implements and wool products at the Yallingup Shearing Shed. The Wardan Aboriginal Cultural Centre is located off Caves Road, just south of Yallingup and Smiths Beach. Guides provide historical and cultural information along with bush tucker tours, dreamtime stories, traditional dancing and didgeridoo.
