Update August 2014
The tender for the terminal expansion was awarded to Innovest Construction in April 2014.
The project is now well underway and on schedule for completion in early April 2015.
The concrete floor slab, structural steel work, walls and roof trusses of the extension to the existing terminal are in place along with roof sheeting and external cladding.
This extension will house an:
- upgraded departure lounge and café;
- new entrance;
- new check-in; and
- new baggage counter area
This key strategic project received generous funding support by way of a 2012-13 Regional Airports Development Scheme grant for $516,300 and a 2013-14 Federal Community Development grant for $500,000.
Once complete the expansion will allow the airport to accommodate jet aircraft with around 160 passengers. This will facilitate growth in FIFO charters and the possible future arrival of aircraft from interstate destinations such as Sydney and Melbourne directly into Busselton.
Whilst a runway extension is not part of the current scope of works, it is hoped that funding to undertake this will be secured through State Government. The South West Development Commission, in association with the City of Busselton, has submitted a business case supporting the upgrade of the airport, including a runway extension, to the State Government. This business case is currently being considered.
