Aerobic Treatment Units (ATUs)
In certain parts of the Busselton region, you may be required to install an Aerobic Treatment Unit (ATU) in place of a standard septic system. ATUs are a more advanced effluent treatment system that use irrigation dripper lines or sprinkler heads to disperse the treated effluent. Phosphate removing ATUs may be required on properties located near environmentally sensitive water bodies.
Only ATUs that have been approved by the WA Department of Health will be approved for installation. Please refer to this list of approved ATUs to choose an approved system.
ATUs require regular servicing by agents authorised by the WA Department of Health. Please refer to this list of authorised service agents for further information and contact details of authorised maintenance contractors.
