On Friday 3 July 2020 at 4.00pm the City will see its new bridge across the Vasse River formally opened by the Hon. Nola Marino MP and Deputy Mayor Kelly Hick. Members of the public are welcome to join in the opening that celebrates a major milestone for improving the City’s overall road network.

Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories and Federal Member for Forrest, the Hon. Nola Marino MP said the Australian Government committed $1.7 million to this important project from its Bridges Renewal program. “The new bridge means improved efficiency and connectivity to a community that is experiencing continual growth in both population and visitors to the region”.

The City’s Mayor, Grant Henley advised “Together with the construction of the new roundabout at Rosemary Drive and the extension of Cammilleri Street, these works provide a much needed second entrance point into the town centre.“

This new entrance point will:

• Reduce congestion in the town centre and Causeway Road

• Provider quicker access to East Busselton

• Offer an alternative entry and exit point for emergency vehicles

• Direct tourist traffic directly to caravan parks and the Busselton foreshore reducing bottlenecks at town centre intersections.

Mayor Henley further advised “These works are part of a staged upgrade of the Busselton local road network designed to improve access for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists both now and into the future. The opening of the bridge means we’ve made huge progress to deliver on our commitment to this project.”

The bridge is expected to be open to vehicles from 4.30pm on Friday.

**Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with Key Goal Area 5 in the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (Review 2019): Transport that is smart, connective and accessible.
