The 14th Annual City of Busselton Art Award and Street Party is the go to event in the arts calendar for the region. Bring the family down to the Cultural Precinct from 5pm on Friday 3rd Dec to enjoy the Street Party.

The street party in the Busselton Cultural Precinct will run throughout the night with a carnival atmosphere celebrating with food, drink, live music, street art performance and of course the major art award announcements.

The art award was established in 2008 in order to support both local and WA contemporary artists and allow the City to collect new works for the City’s art collection. Past winners of the Art Award include: Kay Gibson, Elmari Steyn, Marina Troitsky, and most recently the 2020 winner Christian Fletcher. This year there is a total prize pool of $15,000 up for grabs.

Everyone has an opinion on who should win the award but how good are your art judging skills? Why not see if you can choose the winning works before the announcements at 6:30pm. You are also invited to vote for your favourite piece for the $500 People’s Choice award.

This larger show allows as many artists as possible to show their works to the public. The artwork be available for purchase from our online sales portal as soon as the winners are announced at 6:30PM. The winning piece is acquired by City of Busselton to add to their growing art collection.

The Street Party kicks off with South West Funk and reggae band Beeva Feeva. Light and colour dancing by Moonlight Bodyworks will take place once the sun is setting. The Witchy Djypsies, a Gypsy Ska band from Fremantle, will continue on the carnival atmosphere with their music into the evening.

This free event runs from 5.00pm to 8.30pm. Both the ArtGeo Gallery and Old Courthouse will be open to view the Art Award exhibition and Showcase of Skills. Food and drinks including the Pop-Up ‘Court Side Bar’, Dhiana’s Indonesian Catering and Donuts and more will be available to purchase while relaxing and enjoying the entertainment.

The City of Busselton Art Award exhibition is showing from 4 December to Sunday 30th January 2022 from 10.00am to 4.00pm daily.

Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (2021 - 2031) Key Themes, Leadership: A Council that connects with the community and is accountable in its decision making.
