City Provides Free Online Educational Platform for Library Card Holders

Published on Monday, 19 September 2022 at 4:23:12 PM

Throughout the last few years, the increase in the prevalence and use of online learning options has highlighted an opportunity for the City to investigate alternate methods to deliver training to the community.

With this in mind, the City has identified an opportunity to deliver a flexible broader range of free online learning options for community members to assist them in both their professional and personal growth for our youth, aged and unemployed.

LinkedIn Learning is a reputable online learning provider and platform and has been engaged by the City in a 12 month trial to provide courses taught by industry experts in real time. All the courses on LinkedIn fall into three categories: Business, Creative and Technology.

Features include:

  1. Participants having free access to over 15,000 courses in seven major languages.
  2. Offers high-quality content that will be taught by credible experts, for example; Excel 2016 Essential Training, Strategic Thinking and Minute-taking, Understanding Business, Business Math and many more.
  3. Learn On The Go - You don’t have to be confined in front of your computer in order to get through the learning content on this platform. Courses are also available on mobile devices, so you can access from anywhere.

To access these free online courses and learn business, creative and technology skills all you need is your free Busselton Libraries Membership Card.

Mayor Grant Henley said “Currently City Libraries have over 18,000 active library memberships. Often staff are asked questions like how do I type a resume and email and how do I use Microsoft Word.”

“This online learning tool will do this while increasing social well-being and upskilling that can lead to improved employment prospects.”

“Additionally, this platform will support our existing Community Capacity Building Program, another training platform to build the skills of local Community and Sporting Groups.” he said.

To access LinkedIn Learning all you need is your library card and pin. Go to the Library LinkedIn Learning  platform.

Once you are logged in, it is recommended completing the How to Use LinkedIn Learning course.
