Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Further Facility Closures

Published on Friday, 20 March 2020 at 11:34:00 AM

The City of Busselton has made the decision to close the Naturaliste Community Centre (NCC) and both the Busselton and Dunsborough Libraries effective at close of business today (Friday 20 March 2020).

This temporary closure is in response to directives around social distancing and indoor gatherings and is a pre-emptive measure to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus. The Geographe Leisure Centre, City of Busselton Youth Services (YCAB building), the Artgeo Gallery and Court House Complex were closed to the public on Wednesday 18 March as precautionary action.

City of Busselton Libraries offer an extensive range of online resources including e-books, eAudiobooks and eFilms. These online resources have not been impacted by the closure and people are encouraged to utilise them. Visit www.busseltonlibraries.com.au/ for more information.

NCC memberships will be suspended from 20 March 2020 until such time as the centre can be safely reopened. NCC user groups have been notified (or are in the process of being notified) and no further bookings will be taken for the centre. The Child Health Service which operates from the NCC has not been impacted by the closure.

City of Busselton Mayor Grant Henley said: “The health of the community and City employees is paramount. In consideration of advice on social distancing and indoor gatherings, this pre-emptive action is necessary. We know several other metropolitan and regional Local Governments have now enforced similar closures or introduced significant operating restrictions at municipal facilities. It would appear that many more will follow over the next few days.

We acknowledge that these closures impact upon the community and upon our valued staff. We’ll be keeping the community up-to-date on the situation and working closely with staff so they can continue to contribute to the delivery of City of Busselton services. We hope, that the closures will not be in place for too long but at this point a definitive reopening time simply can’t be given.”

The Objectives outlined in this media release are aligned to Key Goal Area 1 in the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (Review 2019): Our community is welcoming, friendly and healthy.
