Jetstar Flight Postponed

Published on Thursday, 19 March 2020 at 10:05:00 AM

Qantas and Jetstar announced today a reduction in domestic flights. One of the flights which has been suspended is the new Melbourne to Busselton route which was scheduled for launch on 25 March 2020.

While it is extremely disappointing that the new Jetstar route from Melbourne to Busselton has been postponed, the City of Busselton supports Jetstar’s decision to do so.

Launching this new route in the midst of a pandemic was not a feasible option.

City of Busselton Mayor Grant Henley said that demand for the flights pre COVID-19 was strong. “We have every confidence that the new route will be well supported in the future,” he said.

“On a positive note, the Busselton Margaret River Airport is looking excellent and the new arrivals hall and departure facilities will be up and running when Jetstar announces commencement of the service. We look forward to celebrating this day with the community in more positive times.”

The City acknowledges support received from the Australian Government, Tourism WA, the South West Development commission and Jetstar. Mayor Henley also acknowledged the efforts of City of Busselton Officers who worked so hard in the lead up to the planned launch.

“Even though we won’t be welcoming our first interstate visitors later this month as planned, I want to personally thank members of the City’s Airport Development Team who, under the direction of CEO Mike Archer and Director of Community and Commercial Services Naomi Searle, have done an excellent job in preparing the airport and establishing the processes and procedures that underpin operations. I acknowledge their tremendous efforts on behalf of Council and the broader community.”

The Objectives out lined in this media release are aligned to Key Goal Area 5 in the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (Review 2019): Transport networks that are smart, connective and accessible.
