In its thirteenth year, the City of Busselton Art Award has received a huge 175 entries!

James Davies, Manager of Regional Exhibitions and Touring at the Art Gallery of Western Australia; multi-award-winning artist Tania Spencer; and City of Busselton Councillor Kate Cox have a difficult job ahead of them as judges.

Sharon Williams, ArtGeo Curator said “First prize is $10,000 and a solo exhibition. Prizes are also awarded for Emerging Artist, Highly Commended and People’s Choice which is chosen by visitors to the gallery voting for their favourite piece.” The winners of the award will be announced at an exciting Street Party on Friday, 4 December in the Cultural Precinct.”

John Reid, ArtGeo Coordinator, said that “The Street Party was an event not to be missed with a performance by aerial enchantress and international performer Theaker von Ziarno. Theaker’s aerial silk show is performed on a seven meter rig accompanied by Opera singer Aria Scarlett, bringing the spirit of drama to the streets of Busselton. Von Ziarno pioneered aerial street performances, being one of the first solo aerial performers in the world to build her rig as part of the performance. She tours international Festival circuits performing at Glastonbury, Edinburgh Fringe and many others.”

John further advised “We’re thrilled that infamous multi-instrumentalist Michael de Grussa, ex-Kill Devil Hills bassist and session pianist for Eskimo Joe, will also be performing.”

This free event runs from 5.00pm to 8.30pm. Both the ArtGeo Gallery and Old Courthouse will be open to view the Art Award exhibition and Showcase of Skills. Rocky Ridge Brewing will be onsite serving drinks and there will also be food available while relaxing and enjoying the entertainment.

The annual art award was established in 2008 when the ArtGeo Gallery opened in the heritage listed, former Agricultural building. The City of Busselton Art Award exhibition is showing from 4 December to 27 January from 10.00am to 4.00pm daily.

Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with Key Goal Area 1 in the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (Review 2019): Community – Welcoming, friendly and healthy.
