Walk to School – College Avenue Shared Path

A new $360,000, 3 metre wide asphalt shared path has been completed on College Avenue Busselton, delivered by the City of Busselton with funding support from the Department of Transport (DOT) Regional Bike Network Grants Scheme.

A path activation walk and cycle to school event is scheduled for parents and students from St Mary Mackillop College on Friday 13 March from
8.10am – 8.30am. Students who walk or cycle to school on the day will be welcomed with a healthy fruit breakfast. Participants will also receive entry into a prize draw to win gift vouchers to spend at local businesses.

To complement the new path the City has created a landscape plan which will be implemented during the winter months. The focus of the new landscaping will be on planting native plants that provide habitat for local fauna.

City of Busselton Mayor Grant Henley said that development and expansion of the network of dual use pathways across the district has been a priority of the current Council and preceding Councils.

“Council understands that connecting people with the places they visit, work, study and live is key to living here in the South West. There are now over 200km of dual use pathways linking town centres, scenic locations, schools and commercial hubs.

Busselton is a great place for walking or cycling and there are significant health and environmental benefits associated with more exercise and less carbon emissions. We especially like to see our young people utilising these path ways – they are forming healthy habits that will hopefully last a life-time.”

The Objectives out lined in this media release are aligned to Key Goal Area 5 in the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (Review 2019): Transport networks that are smart, connective and accessible.
