As part of today’s Australia Day celebrations, both Busselton and Dunsborough held a Citizenship Ceremony and presented Community Citizen of the Year Awards. 

From 17 different nations, 19 new citizens took to the stage in Busselton and 9 new citizens in Dunsborough. To all our new Australians, thank you and congratulations. 

The Australia Day Community Citizen of the Year Awards recognise individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to our community. Many volunteers give their time and without their contribution, many of the services and benefits we enjoy as a community would not be available. Recipients of this year’s awards were nominated by the community for their selfless and worthy contribution. The City extends its congratulations to: 

Busselton Winners

  • Marshall Grosse – Community Citizen of the Year Award Category
  • Delys Forrest – Senior Community Citizen of the Year Award Category 

Dunsborough Winner

  • Joshua Whiteland – Community Citizen of the Year Award Category 

Busselton Nominees

  • Madeline Wardle – Community Citizen of the Year Award Category
  • Baylee Dunnet – Community Citizen of the Year Award Category
  • Travis Brown and Emma Royer – Community Citizen of the Year Award Category
  • Silke Rothkamm – Community Citizen of the Year Award Category
  • Ant Pursell – Senior Citizen of the Year Award Category
  • Rod Smirk – Senior Citizen of the Year Award Category
  • Cathy Gibson – Senior Citizen of the Year Award Category
  • Desmond Donnelly – Senior Citizen of the Year Award Category 

Dunsborough Nominee

  • Peter Kyle – Senior Citizen of the Year Award Category

The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement. Among the 1047 Australians to be recognised in this year’s Australia Day Honours List are two outstanding locals: 

  • Nikki Griffiths – for her service to local business and community
  • Janet Lorraine Thomas – for her service to animal welfare
