An Occupancy permit must be obtained from a permit authority before a Class 2 to 9 building can be occupied.

An Occupancy Application is submitted to the permit authority accompanied by:

  • Certificate of Construction Compliance BA17 Form for new buildings
  • Certificate of Building Compliance BA18 Form for existing buildings
  • Be signed by a Building surveyor; with supporting documents
  • The permit authority has 10 business days to decide on an Occupancy Application. These timelines may sometimes be extended in consultation with the applicant.

The City accepts building applications in hardcopy or electronic format via the following:

A Request for Payment will be issued upon receipt of application

A copy or the details of the occupancy permit must be displayed at or near the principal entrance to the building so that it is clearly visible.
