The City of Busselton contains an incredible diversity of landscapes, plants and animals, wetlands, waterways and coastal environments.
- As part of the South West region of Western Australian, the City forms part of an internationally recognised ‘Biodiversity Hotspot’ with exceptional diversity and unique species but recognised threats to biodiversity.
- The internationally significant Vasse - Wonnerup wetland and other wetlands provide valuable habitat for waterbirds.
- Ngari Capes Marine Park- including the most extensive seagrass meadows in temperate WA.
Did You Know?
The City manages over 10,000 hectares of bushland, open space reserves and road reserves and over 8,000 hectares of coastal reserves. Many City reserves have high biodiversity values including threatened plants, vegetation and animals. There are also important heritage and Aboriginal cultural sites.
As part of our Bushcare and Waterways programs, the City actively works to manage threats to biodiversity, improve waterway management, manage impacts of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The City encourages community involvement in environmental programs – Get Involved - through the Environmental Reference Group, Friends of Reserve Groups, Biodiversity Incentive Strategy, Street Tree Program, Nature Verge Program, Living Smart Course.
