The State Government has put in place restrictions to stop shark fishing from the Busselton Jetty and all nearshore waters (within 800m from shore) along the Busselton foreshore (between the Vasse Diversion Drain and the Georgette Street boat ramp) will come into effect from 1 October.

On 1 May 2024 a Special Council Meeting was held to consider the motions put forward by the electors. The Council unanimously resolved to make a submission to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water on behalf of the electors and community members of the City of Busselton regarding the Federal Government’s proposal to declare an area for offshore wind development in the Indian Ocean off the Bunbury region in Western Australia (Proposal).
