About this statement
This Privacy Statement explains how the City of Busselton (the City) collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information when you interact with the City, including through the City’s website and online services.
The City manages personal information in accordance with the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (which comes into effect 1 July 2026), supported by recordkeeping and information security practices.
There are inherent risks associated with transmitting information over the Internet. Users should make their own assessment of those risks when choosing to use online services.
Collection and use of Personal Information
The City collects personal information in order to carry out its business functions, deliver services and administer programs for the community. This may include personal information collected:
- Through online forms, systems and your use of the City’s digital services;
- Through correspondence, enquiries, applications, service requests or complaints;
- In the performance of the City’s statutory, regulatory and service delivery functions; or
- Where required or authorised under relevant legislation.
The City uses personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, for a City business related purpose, or where authorised by law. This includes to communicate with you, respond to requests, deliver services and administer programs, and meet legislative requirements.

Website Visit Data
- When you visit the City’s website, information about your visit is automatically logged for statistical and operational purposes. This information is used to:
- monitor website usage and performance
- identify the information that is most and least accessed
- improve website design, functionality and content.
Information collected may include:
- the internet service provider and server used to access the site
- pages accessed and time spent on the site
- device type, operating system and browser
- referring websites or links
- The City does not attempt to identify individual users’ browsing activity except where authorised or required by law, including where necessary to investigate suspected misuse, unlawful activity, or where requested by an authorised body
- Requests to access or correct personal information held by the City can be made under the Freedom of Information Act 1992.
Protection, security and storage
The City maintains physical, technical and administrative controls designed to protect personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
Personal information is stored securely and accessed by authorised personnel for legitimate business purposes.
Disclosure of personal information
The City may disclose personal information in circumstances including:
- With your consent;
- To carry out the purpose or function for which the information was collected, or for a City business related secondary purpose;
- Where required or authorised by law;
- To protect the safety, rights or property of individuals or the City
- To lessen or prevent a serious threat to life, health or safety
- With other government agencies or service providers where authorised, and where appropriate safeguards are in place
The City does not sell or rent personal information.
Access to personal information
Individuals may request access to, or correction of, their personal information in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 1992.
Public internet services
Where the City provides public internet access (such as public Wi‑Fi or library computers), usage may be monitored to maintain network security, investigate misuse and comply with legal obligations.
The City does not identify individual users’ browsing activity unless authorised or required by law.
