City of Busselton Annual Sports Awards 2024 

The City understands the immense value sport brings to the local community through physical health and well-being, enhanced mental and emotional well-being and how it assists to foster social cohesion and community engagement. Through sport, individuals of all ages improve their fitness, find joy and stress relief, learn important values, connect with others, support local events, and create a strong, united community that thrives on shared passion and achievement.

The Annual Sports Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements and contributions in community sport. These awards aim to honour and acknowledge individuals, teams, clubs and organisations that have made significant contributions to the sports community in Busselton.

The City of Busselton Sports Awards will be held on the night of Tuesday 22 October 2024.

Categories

Individual Category

Focuses on honouring exceptional achievements and contributions made by individuals within the sports community.

This category recognises athletes, coaches, volunteers and administrators who have demonstrated excellence in their respective roles. Individual awards acknowledge outstanding performances, leadership, dedication, sportsmanship, and the positive impact individuals have made on their sports and the community as a whole. This category celebrates the hard work, talent, and passion of individuals who have excelled in their chosen sports and have become role models for others in Busselton.

Please note that nominees must be 18 years of age or over.

Club Category

Highlights the significance of sports clubs and organisations in the local community.

This category recognises the efforts and accomplishments of clubs that have made a positive impact on their members, the sports they represent, and the broader community. Awards in this category acknowledge clubs for their achievements, effective governance and administration, community engagement, development programs, and overall contribution to the growth and promotion of sport in Busselton. Clubs play a crucial role in providing opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities to participate in sports, fostering a sense of community, teamwork, and healthy competition.

Eligibility

Please ensure you read through and understand the eligibility criteria before submitting your application forms.

Please note that nominees must be 18 years of age or over. 

Individual Category

All individual nominees must be a current City of Busselton resident, having lived in the City at some point during the past 12 months.

  • Nominees may be nominated by any sporting club, association, committee or individual.
  • Nominees must be 18 years of age or over as at 31 July 2023.
    • Rising Sport Star provides annual awards for Juniors under 18 years of age
  • There may be up to four finalists selected from all nominations received.
  • Nominees will be judged on their achievements during the period of the preceding season i.e.: the last season the club played in
  • In regards to the Para Athlete of the Year the term Para Athlete is defined by International Paralympic Committee (IPC) guidelines 2021 as athletes with a disability, Para athlete, athlete/person with disability, athlete/person with vision impairment, athlete/person with physical and/or intellectual impairment.
  • All nominees selected as finalists for the awards will need to provide two photographs of the nominee, one head and shoulders photo and one of them participating in their chosen sport. Photos are to be in JPEG format between 1 - 3MB. If possible a 30 second video of them participating in their sport.
  • Incomplete nominations or those submitted after the specified closing date will be ineligible

Club Category

  • All clubs/teams must be based in the City of Busselton.
  • Clubs/teams may be nominated by any sporting club, association, committee or individual.
  • Nominees will be judged on their achievements during the period of the preceding season i.e.: the last season the club played in
  • There may be up to four finalists selected from all nominations received.
  • All nominees selected as finalists for the awards will need to provide two photographs of the team/club. Photos are to be in JPEG format between 1 - 3MB. If possible a 30 second video of them participating in their sport.
  • Incomplete nominations or those submitted after the specified closing date will be ineligible

 

Assessment

A panel of judges will assess all nominations based on their merit.

Assessment Panel

The panel will be comprised of:

  • City of Busselton Mayor
  • Director Community Planning
  • Manager Recreation and Community Services
  • Coordinator Recreation and Community Development
  • Para Athlete Specialist

All successful nominees will be notified via email with an event invitation. For unsuccessful nominations only the nominating organisation/club will be informed via email.

All nominations will be assessed and completed by Friday 11 October 2024.
