The Council of the City of Busselton consists of nine elected members. The Mayor is elected by the Councillors.  Councillors are responsible for representing the interests of residents, providing leadership and guidance in decision-making.  Committees of Council and other working groups enable informed decision-making through providing a broad range of advice to the Council.

Cr Grant Henley Cr Grant Henley

Mayor

Elected to Council in October 2009, Cr Grant Henley has served as Mayor since October 2015. With a keen interest in social and economic sustainability, Grant has been a strong supporter of the City’s foreshore re-development and town centre revitalisation projects. He played a key role in the attraction of cruise ships to the region and advocated for the expansion of the Busselton Margaret River Airport.

Born in Hobart, Grant served in the Royal Australian Navy for 20 years before retiring and moving to Busselton in 2002 with his wife and two daughters. Here he worked in the tourism industry eventually establishing a guesthouse which he operated until 2015.

When he isn’t out and about town fulfilling his Mayoral duties, Grant is an active member of the RSL and enjoys watching rugby and cricket.

Cr Kelly Hick Cr Kelly Hick

Deputy Mayor

Elected to Council in October 2017, Cr Kelly Hick combines her Deputy Mayor responsibilities with operating tourism and consultancy businesses. She is also the Deputy Chancellor of ECU having been a member of the University’s governing Council since 2012.
A former lawyer, Kelly’s professional background certainly assists in Council’s policy and legislative work. Additionally, she has found her involvement in the planning and delivery of commercial and community projects and the investigation of broader economic development initiatives is also particularly rewarding.

Kelly moved to Dunsborough six years ago ‘to live the dream’ with her husband and two dogs. She notes the seachange/treechange has exceeded expectations! Kelly enjoys cycling and gives her time to mentoring young women in business and contributing to a range of not-for-profit boards and activities.

Cr Jo Barrett-Lennard Cr Jo Barrett-Lennard

Councillor

Elected to Council in October 2019, Cr Jo Barrett-Lennard said it was a desire to represent Dunsborough in a more formal capacity that motivated her to run for Council. Jo is a full time law-student, a Justice of the Peace and the mother of a teenage daughter. She’s also a licensed Marriage Celebrant which, being a romantic at heart, she absolutely loves.

The daughter of farmers from a tiny Wheat belt town called Bindi-Bindi, Jo spent many childhood holidays in the South West. When her parents retired to Dunsborough 10 years ago, she was quick to follow.

She loves Dunsborough’s beaches, the upbeat community vibe and the town’s great amenities. In her spare time she likes to get into the garden and walk the trails in Meelup Regional Park.

Cr Paul Carter Cr Paul Carter

Councillor

Elected to Council in 2015, Cr Paul Carter combines his work in the agriculture industry with his Council responsibilities. It was a desire to grow employment and opportunities for young people in the region that motivated him to run for Council.
Paul was born in Carbunup into a dairy family. He received a Bachelor of Business in Agriculture from Curtin University and worked for several years in agribusiness.

Paul joined the City of Busselton Council in 2015 and has taken a keen interest in economic development portfolios. He is a member of the Busselton Margaret River Airport Advisory Committee; the Finance Committee and the Economic Development Taskforce. He's also active on the Regional Road Group and the Lower Vasse River Management Advisory Group.

Cr Kate Cox Cr Kate Cox

Councillor

Elected to Council in October 2019, Cr Kate Cox has owned and operated a number of local retail and wholesale businesses. Her current business, women's clothing store Sociologie is located in the Busselton CBD.  Kate relocated to Busselton 24 years ago to take up a role in the Environmental Health Department of the then Shire of Busselton, not long after moving to Busselton she met her husband Ed and together they run a large dairy farm near Vasse.

Kate also has a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Political Science.  Her interest in becoming a Councillor was based on her diverse background and from a desire to reinvigorate the Busselton CBD, shine a light on small business and agriculture and increase community consultation. 

When Kate is not attending Council meetings, managing her business and three teenage daughters,  Kate enjoys travelling, gardening, reading and walking her dogs on the beach.

Cr Phill Cronin Cr Phill Cronin

Councillor

Elected to Council in October 2019, Cr Phill Cronin is a hobby farmer, communication consultant, Board member, husband and City of Busselton Councillor.

Originally from the UK where he qualified with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Phill has been living in the South West for nearly four years, having been a regular visitor for more than 20 years.

Phill says that nowhere could top the City of Busselton which offered a unique mixture of “commercial opportunity, natural beauty and relaxed lifestyle”. So here he happily resides with his wife and their two (impeccably trained) border collies Cullen and Charlie.

Cr Lyndon Miles Cr Lyndon Miles

Councillor

Elected to Council in October 2017, Cr Lyndon Miles was inspired to run for Council because he wanted to help shape the future of this “awesome” City and is passionate about community-building.

He moved to Busselton to be closer to family and has, over a fairly short timeframe, made a significant contribution.  Lyndon is a member of the Policy and Legislation Committee, Meelup Regional Park Committee, Geographe Bay Regional Road wise Road Safety working Group. Sporting and event generation is an area of special interest for this keen cyclist and Jetty Swim volunteer. Events create jobs, generate income and, most importantly, get people moving and engaged.

In his spare time, between work and Council responsibilities, Lyndon is a busy Dad of three boys and an active member of the Busselton Surf Life Saving Club.

Cr Ross Paine Cr Ross Paine

Councillor

Elected to Council in October 2015, Cr Ross Paine brings a mix of experience and personal conviction to the council table with a background in IT and a Diploma in Network Engineering, a passion for the environment and a commitment to healthy and active living.

Ross was born in the region and raised on a farm in Carbunup before leaving to study and then later moved to Canberra for work. Ross is a husband and a dad, as well as a foundation member of the Busselton Runners Club.

In his spare time, Ross is an avid cyclist and runner, and regularly compete in cross country and road running events.

Cr Sue Riccelli Cr Sue Riccelli

Councillor

Elected to Council in October 2019, Cr Sue Riccelli currently combines her Council responsibilities with her role as the Parenting Coordinator, Parenting Connection Southwest (Anglicare). She served as a Police Officer for 15 years before moving into the Parenting Support Industry approximately 14 years ago.

After a lifetime of holidaying in the region, Cr Sue Riccelli settled permanently in the Cape region approximately five years ago. Drawn by the lifestyle, natural environment and impressed by the generosity of spirit she encountered.

It’s hard to imagine Sue actually has any spare time but when she does she loves being with her adult children, her new partner and her two “fur babies”. When she's not exploring the great outdoors and keeping fit, you’ll find her with a nice drop of red, either with friends, reading a book or watching the cricket.
