As part of the City’s ongoing coastal management project, we’re about to commence works along the Busselton foreshore between King Street and Gale Street. The works will deliver long term coastal protection against erosion and will involve the construction of seven new low-profile Geotextile Sand Container (GSC) groynes and the addition of sand to further reinforce the beach.

Construction will be delivered in two stages:

Stage 1: October to December 2025 Covering the stretch from Groyne 3 (near Gale Street) to Groyne 7 (near Margaret Street), this phase includes:

  • Installation of five new groynes, each approximately 40 metres in length
  • Placement of 7,500 cubic metres of sand to strengthen the beach profile
  • Refurbishment of the 60-metre Sand Container wall at King Street

Please note: The King Street carpark will be fully closed during this period to accommodate equipment, materials, and machinery access.

Stage 2: March to April 2026 Focusing on Groyne 1 and Groyne 2 near Gale Street, this phase will include:

  • Construction of two additional groynes
  • Placement of 3,000 cubic metres of sand
  • Final beach cleanup and restoration

These works form part of a broader project to protect Busselton’s coastline while maintaining safe, accessible, and enjoyable public spaces. Updates will be provided throughout the project to keep the community informed.
