The street tree program is open to properties in residential areas only.

Through the programme, trees are supplied and planted on the verge at no cost to residents. The maximum number of trees available per property is guided by the length of your road frontage boundary (in metres) divided by 10.

The City takes requests for street trees year round. Planting of the trees only occurs in winter (July/August). There is a limited number of trees available each year. If your request for a tree(s) cannot be accommodated this winter, your request will be prioritised for planting the following year.

The programme aims to maintain and expand tree coverage in urban areas. Street trees help make an area look established and feel more relaxed. They provide shade and shelter and help to reduce summer water use. They bring life to an area by providing feeding and nesting places for wildlife and can even help improve property values. Residents can help the City by assisting their street tree to establish. Pruning and ongoing maintenance of the tree(s) is the responsibility of the City, and any requests for maintenance of verge trees can be forwarded to Customer Service on (08) 9781 0444, or via email city@busselton.wa.gov.au. 

Please note: The City will endeavour to carry out planting in all preferred locations wherever possible. However, there may be factors such as location of utilities and/or driveways that could impact on the preferred location(s) causing either the location to be changed or prevent the planting from occurring at all.

The City will only plant if you are prepared to water the tree(s) while they are establishing. This means twice a week during summer for the first year and additionally if the tree is wilting.

Please note, you won't be able to select some species if you have power lines on your verge.

This number though is dependent on whether there is enough room or there are services located in the verge.
