The City has been directed by Main Roads WA to introduce new traffic restrictions on the Causeway Road bridge which crosses the Vasse River. These changes will take effect from mid-morning on Friday 7 August 2026.
Following a structural assessment by Main Roads WA, the following changes will be implemented:
- Load limit reduced to 12 tonnes (regular cars, utes and SUVs can still use the bridge)
- Only northbound traffic (traffic heading into town) will be permitted to use the bridge via a single lane
- Speed limit to be reduced to 40km/h
For the limited number of heavy vehicles that travel on this section of Causeway Road, there will be detours via alternative routes, including Cammilleri Street, Peel Terrace, Strelly Street and Barlee/West Street.
New traffic controls and signage will be in place to guide road users.
The Causeway Road bridge is a City of Busselton asset with inspections, maintenance and works undertaken in partnership with Main Roads WA through State Government funded bridge programs.
The City is now working with Main Roads WA to plan for and undertake repairs to reinstate bridge load limits to meet current Main Roads WA specifications. Approvals from relevant agencies are required before works can commence, so at this stage so we anticipate repairs to be completed in 3-4 months.
