The City of Busselton is inviting the community to have their say on Draft Local Planning Scheme No. 22, with a series of information sessions planned across the city to help residents understand the proposed scheme and how it could guide future planning and development.
The draft scheme has been developed to replace the existing scheme and provides a modern planning framework to guide future growth and development, while protecting important environmental features and areas requiring special planning consideration.
A local planning scheme is the City’s framework for guiding how land is used and developed across the district. It sets out where different types of development may occur, what land uses can be considered in each area, and the requirements that apply to new development. The planning scheme helps the City manage growth and change in a way that supports the community, protects local character and values, and helps create places where environment, lifestyle and opportunity thrive.
Mayor Phill Cronin said while some parts of the draft scheme are required under the State planning framework, other elements have been developed specifically for the City of Busselton.
“The Draft Local Planning Scheme No. 22 also contains changes that the City was directed to include by the Minister of Planning. Residents, landowners, businesses and other interested community members are encouraged to explore the draft scheme, ask questions and provide feedback during the public consultation period.”
“A series of community drop-in information sessions will give residents the opportunity to speak directly with City Planners, learn more about the draft scheme and discuss what it could mean for their neighbourhood and the broader community. The sessions will be held at locations across Busselton, Dunsborough and Vasse, making it easier for community to attend a session.”
The draft Local Planning Scheme No. 22, information sessions, submission process, mapping tool and supporting documents are available through the City’s Your Say Busselton engagement platform. Hard copies can also be accessed at the City’s Administration Building on Southern Drive, Busselton and at both the Busselton and Dunsborough libraries. Visit Your Say Busselton.
Submissions close on 31 January 2027.
Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Council Plan (2024 - 2034) Key Theme Place – Responsible planning is helping the region to experience sustainable growth with retention and enhancement of our unique character, identity and lifestyle.
