The City of Busselton is pleased to welcome Gemma Harrison as the new Sports Inclusion Coach, joining forces with the City and Sport4All to help drive greater inclusivity in local sport. In her new role, Gemma will support the delivery of the Sport4All Program, promoting accessible and inclusive sporting opportunities across the community.
The City partnered with Sport4All in 2024 for a jointly funded three year agreement to drive a positive change to ensure everyone can enjoy the benefits of sport. The award-winning national program was brought to life through a collaboration between the Australian Government, the Australian Sports Commission and the former Australian of the year, Dylan Alcott AO’s consultancy, Get Skilled Access.
Gemma’s appointment will ensure the successful delivery of the Sport4All Program, working with local schools, sports clubs and community. Her distinguished career spans national and state-level sport development, including time at the Australian Sports Commission and the WA Football Commission, as well as consultancy across the sector. Gemma’s background as a registered teacher and work in the disability sector underscores her passion for inclusive learning environments and equitable community outcomes.
Gemma is also a proud beach-lover, surfer, jet skier and hockey player, often spotted enjoying life with her partner, two children and two spirited dachshunds. Her infectious energy, heartfelt commitment and love for community are sure to leave a lasting difference for inclusion across all aspects of sport.
Mayor Phill Cronin said: “We’re truly excited to have Gemma onboard. Through the Sport4All initiative, Gemma will lead efforts to provide resources, guidance and training that embraces diversity and creates opportunities for people with disability to participate and thrive.”
Gemma said: “This role is an incredibly powerful opportunity that combines her two greatest professional passions—sport and inclusion. Collaboratively we can make a real difference by removing barriers and building a welcoming, inclusive environment for all.”
Later this year the City will host an Inclusion Forum in collaboration with Sport4All and both local and state organisations. This event will serve as a cornerstone for exchanging ideas, sparking innovation and igniting lasting change. Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Council Plan (2024 - 2034) Key Theme Lifestyle – Our community is safe, welcoming and inclusive, with access to services and facilities to support good health and wellbeing.
