Busselton production ‘Beyond the Vasse’ was one of four West Australian creative projects to share in $557, 535 in grant funding to create performances in regional WA.

The production was awarded $148,687 by the McGowan Government’s Made in WA funding and will be directed by multi award winning artist Kelton Pell.

‘Beyond the Vasse’ is a collective aspiration of the local community who approached the City of Busselton with the idea of telling the untold Aboriginal stories of the Wadandi people.

“To truth tell and share in the collective history and love of this country is a wonderful opportunity that makes me realise my responsibility to the production and I’m excited by the potential results we may find together” said director, Kelton Pell.

The musical comedy will be the first local production to premiere at Saltwater, produced locally in Busselton and made possible by the realisation of the new performing arts and convention centre, which is already proving to be a catalyst for arts and culture in the region.

“Beyond the Vasse will be entertaining, heart-warming and educational. With a professional creative team and lead cast, supported by local performers, this will be a production to bring the whole community together,” said City of Busselton Mayor Grant Henley

Work on the production will begin in the new year and premiere at Busselton’s new performing arts centre, Saltwater.

Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (2021 - 2031) Key Themes Lifestyle: A place that is relaxed, safe and friendly with services and facilities that support our lifestyle.
