The City of Busselton has proudly launched Salty Sounds, a dedicated music and creative space crafted by the Youth Services where young people can rehearse, create and collaborate at the Youth and Community Activities Building on the Busselton Foreshore.
Designed as a welcoming, relaxed environment, Salty Sounds gives young musicians aged 12 to 24 a regular and supportive place to experiment with music, develop ideas together and build confidence without the immediate pressure of performing.
City of Busselton Mayor Phill Cronin said the new Salty Sounds space reflected the City’s commitment to providing dedicated places, services and support for local young people.
“Opportunities available through this incredible new space include music production, songwriting, recording, DJing and jam sessions. As the program grows, it will also offer workshops and opportunities for participants to explore pathways into the creative industries.”
“This creative and collaborative space will help nurture future artists in Busselton, giving young people opportunities to try things out and develop their skills over time, as well as forging valuable new connections. I look forward to hearing what they create and perhaps seeing some of them take to the stage at Saltwater in the years ahead.”
The City of Busselton’s Youth Services program is supported through the City’s longstanding partnership with Rio Tinto, established in 2014 to strengthen youth services and opportunities across the region. This partnership was recently renewed for a further three years.
Mayor Cronin thanked City Youth Services staff, the young people whose ideas helped shape Salty Sounds, and Rio Tinto for their continued support.
“Salty Sounds is a really exciting new addition to the City’s youth services, and it is anticipated that it will inspire plenty of creativity, collaboration and great music. Sincere thanks go to Rio Tinto for their ongoing and unwavering support of the youth in Busselton over the last 13 years” Mayor Cronin said.
Through a Salty Sounds Youth Membership, participants can book one session each week for two to three hours. Membership costs $60 for six months, with access available seven days a week between 9.00am and 9.00pm. Salty Sounds operates on an unsupervised basis with sessions booked through the City’s Youth Services team. All members must complete an induction before using the space.
