The City of Busselton is delighted to welcome Jasmin Barker as our new Aquatics Trainee for 2025. Jasmin joins the City as part of the Leisure Services Trainee Program, which has been a youth initiative since 2021. This 12-month fixed-term program focuses on sport and recreation, providing valuable training and experience to young individuals.

The Leisure Services Trainee Program is supported by State Government wage subsidy incentives, which has been instrumental in offering traineeships that combine practical experience with formal qualifications.

Over the past few years, our trainees have primarily worked within the aquatics division, undergoing intensive training in the first two months. This training includes certifications in First Aid, Pool Lifeguard, Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety, Pool Operations and a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation. Once qualified, trainees actively contribute to the daily operations of the City of Busselton Leisure Services team, including pool operations, swim teaching and administration.

Mayor Phill Cronin said: “The City is proud to have had many quality trainees since the program's inception, with most going on to further studies and careers in the industry.”

“Our trainee program provides opportunities for school leavers and those seeking a career change in the aquatics industry. We are excited to see Jasmin thrive and contribute to our community.”

As the City’s 2025 Aquatics Trainee, Jasmin brings some experience and enthusiasm to the role. With a background in surf lifesaving and Pilates instruction, Jasmin is one of the City’s more mature trainees. In her free time she enjoys running, swimming and spending time with horses, keeping her very busy.

Please join the City in welcoming Jasmin Barker to the Aquatics team.

Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Council Plan (2024 - 2034) Key Theme Opportunity – We have a vibrant and growing economy with diverse opportunities for everyone to learn, work and flourish.
