In April, RAC WA advised the City they will no longer be providing the public EV chargers on the Busselton and Dunsborough foreshores as they have reached the conclusion of their 10 year electric highway trial project.
Mayor Phill Cronin said: “The City recognises the importance of having EV chargers available to the local community and visitors in public spaces, so over the next few months we will be looking to advertise an Expression of Interest opportunity for a commercial provider to establish and operate public EV charging stations.”
“The City is currently reviewing possible locations, and any proposals will need to include installation of contemporary technology to service the community’s needs into the future” he said.
In the meantime, the City will take over operation of the EV charging station in Busselton for the next 12 months until a new provider can be found or until alternative public charging stations have been established. Unfortunately, while used regularly, the existing RAC EV charger in Dunsborough is not in an optimal location and will be removed in early July.
Looking at the long term, the City is looking at ways to support the provision of EV infrastructure through the development of a new City of Busselton Parking Strategy.
