At the end of November, City of Busselton staff from the Compliance, Rangers and Health teams joined forces with the WA Police and Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to shut down an illegal multi-day music festival event in the Carbunup area.
The event organiser did not have any of the required approvals to run their event, and this lack of compliance resulted in the event being cancelled before it started.
Mayor Phill Cronin said: “Events of this scale need to seek statutory approvals and well as having an approved risk management plan, bushfire plan and liquor licence for the safety and wellbeing of patrons as well as the wider community who may be impacted by noise and other risks and issues.”
“The City takes public safety extremely seriously. The various approvals processes are in place to ensure safe management of crowds, containment of noise, service of alcohol and - critically for summer – management of fire risk” he said.
The City will continue to monitor for such activities across the summer season. Drone surveillance is used to identify locations and collect evidence, and where necessary the City will take compliance action in partnership with the WA Police and Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
