The City of Busselton is pleased to announce that, following the resignation of CEO Tony Nottle last month, Dr Garry Hunt PSM has been appointed to commence as Interim CEO following Tony’s departure.

Dr Hunt is a highly experienced local government CEO with extensive leadership experience forged over several decades working in the sector. He was the CEO at the City of Joondalup for 16 years, CEO at the City of Perth for eight years and he was also the CEO at the City of Melville for eight years prior to that. Dr Hunt also served as a member of the Senate of Murdoch University from 2004 to 2013, was a member of the Local Government Advisory Board for eight years and more recently, established a successful consulting firm providing advisory and coaching services.

Dr Hunt will commence with the City as the Interim CEO on Monday 15 September 2025 and continue to work with the City for the next 6-8 months while the Council undertake a recruitment process for a new substantive CEO to lead the organisation into the future.

Mayor Phill Cronin said: “We have been lucky to have had Tony as our CEO since 2022. With his dedication and leadership skills he has set the bar high and Council will, in time, formally seek applications from quality applicants to replace him in the position. Until then, we are delighted that Garry will be coming on board with his considerable knowledge, skills and experience to fill the CEO role in an interim capacity.”

“As Interim CEO, Garry will be supporting us through the upcoming election period and will lead the onboarding of any new Councillors. The CEO recruitment process is rigorous and will take a few months, so we expect to have a new CEO starting with us in early 2026” Mayor Cronin said.

Dr Hunt said: “It is a privilege to be able to join the City at this critical time and to be able to offer strategic leadership and support to the organisation in the role of Interim CEO. I look forward to working with elected members, the executive team, staff and the community over the next few months, and will be delighted to lead the organisation forward until the Council has completed their recruitment process and appointed a new substantive CEO.”

Current CEO, Tony Nottle, tendered his resignation in July and will continue working as the City’s CEO until 12 September 2025.

Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Council Plan (2024 - 2034) Key Theme Leadership – We actively engage with community to deliver visionary, collaborative and accountable leadership.
