City of Busselton to consider a ban on shark fishing

Published on Wednesday, 13 March 2024 at 12:14:49 PM

The City of Busselton is seeking community feedback on whether it would support a ban on shark fishing with a wire trace in certain high use recreational areas, such as the Busselton Jetty.

In December 2023, the State Government announced a prohibition on shark fishing within the entire metropolitan area. The City wrote to the Minister for Fisheries, the Hon. Don Punch MLA, asking that consideration be given to address the issue State-wide, including the Busselton Jetty.

In conjunction with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, the City now wishes to identify appropriate areas that could be considered by the Minister as appropriate for the introduction of a wire trace ban. This is where your feedback is important.

To complete the survey, head to the City’s engagement portal Your Say Busselton.

Consultation closes 27 March 2024.

Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (2021 - 2031) Key Themes Lifestyle: A place that is relaxed, safe and friendly with services and facilities that support our lifestyle.
