Dunsborough Lakes Sporting Precinct Pavilion given the green light

At their meeting on Wednesday 27 August 2025, the City of Busselton Council voted in support of proceeding with the construction of a new multi-sport pavilion at the Dunsborough Lakes Sporting Precinct.

This project has already been budgeted for in the City’s 2025/26 annual budget but had been placed on hold by the Council to enable a workshop to take place between Elected Members and participating clubs in August.

Mayor Phill Cronin said: “This decision follows years of consultation with local sporting clubs through which the City’s Sport and Recreation Facilities Strategy was developed. The decision to move forward with the pavilion is fully in line with that plan and will enable us to complete this critical project for Dunsborough which the City commenced work on 18 months ago.”

“The City has already been working with an architect, and with the local clubs this facility is being built for, to finalise a design that accommodates each club’s needs. While this project was already well progressed and fully funded, The Council decided to put this on hold to enable Elected Members to engage directly those clubs earlier this month. This decision will now provide those clubs and their members with some certainty moving forward” he said.

He also said: “Now we are progressing with the construction of this long-awaited pavilion, we can dedicate resources to more assertively exploring opportunities for other strategic sport and recreational solutions to meet the growing needs of the whole community – and that will include looking at the needs of all sports. The precinct will provide additional playing space that is crucially needed by our sporting clubs.” he said.

The Council’s decision to proceed also includes a commitment to continuing to investigate options for sites for a future District Sport and Recreational Facility, investigating options for indoor courts at Dunsborough and bringing forward the eastern extension of playing fields at the Dunsborough Lakes Sporting Precinct to provide a site for soccer to build a clubhouse. The outcomes of these investigations will be discussed in a further Elected Member workshop in 2026 and will inform a review of the Sport and Recreation Facilities Strategy.

This meeting was the last scheduled Ordinary Council Meeting prior to the City entering into a mandatory caretaker period which will extend from 4 September through the announcement of results of the local government election on 18 October.
