Forrest Beach barrier to protect our valuable coastline

Published on Friday, 28 November 2025 at 10:18:44 AM

From Monday 1 December 2025, the City of Busselton will begin installing a new beach barrier at the northern end of Forrest Beach, near the Shire of Capel boundary.
This barrier, which includes an emergency services access gate, is part of stage one of a multi-phase project aimed at protecting this ecologically sensitive coastline. The initiative responds to persistent non-compliant 4WD access that has caused significant dune damage, despite restrictions being in place for over a decade.
By reducing vehicle access, we are helping to safeguard fragile habitats, including nesting areas for shorebirds, and preserve the natural features that make this area so special.
Please note - 4WD access between the high and low watermark east of the Wonnerup Boat Ramp to the estuary mouth will remain permitted, excluding dunes and vegetated areas.
