- Recipients of You Choose Community Funding Program endorsed by Council.
- $100,000 allocated to a range of worthy community projects.
- Eight projects will receive financial support following community voting.
Eight community‑led projects will share $100,000 in funding after residents played a direct role in deciding where the money would go, through the City of Busselton’s You Choose Community Funding Program. These funding allocations reflect the collective priorities of more than one thousand community members who took part in an online voting process to virtually “spend” the budget by selecting and ranking projects they felt would make the greatest local impact. The community’s votes were endorsed by the Council at its meeting on 29 April 2026.
The highest‑scoring project, Move Beyond Cancer, hosted by Latitude 33.7 Physiotherapy, will receive $19,500 to deliver free, specialised exercise classes for people undergoing or recovering from cancer. The second highest‑rated project, Cycling without Age: Dunsborough Pilot, has been awarded $20,000 and will help expand transport options for seniors and people with mobility challenges using specially designed trishaw bicycles. Mayor Phill Cronin congratulated all the successful recipients and thanked them for the work they do in the community:
“This program is a great example of what can be achieved when the community engages with the City to actively drive positive community-led initiatives forward. It highlights how local voices can shape funding decisions and bring important community projects to life” he said. “Over 99% of voters indicated they wanted the You Choose program to continue, which demonstrates the community’s level of appreciation for this approach.”
Successful recipients will have until June 2027 to deliver their projects. A fourth round of the biennial You Choose funding program was also supported by the Council and will be advertised in late 2027.
Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (2021 - 2031) Key Themes Leadership: A Council that connects with the community and is accountable in its decision making.
