1080 Baiting in City reserves – Warning to residents

Published on Friday, 12 April 2024 at 1:35:59 PM

The City will be undertaking a feral animal control program using 1080 poison from Friday 19 April until Friday 17 May 2024 in;

  • Ambergate Reserve 22614, Doyle Road Ambergate, (72ha),
  • Spanish Settlers Reserve 1459 and 17656, Yoongarillup Road, Yoongarillup (27ha)
  • Big Rock Reserve 28665, Caves Road Quedjinup, (76ha),
  • Carbunup Reserve 38582, Bussell Highway, Carbunup River (40ha)

The aim of the control program is to reduce the impacts of feral animals on native fauna and flora in the reserves.

1080 is poisonous and a danger to humans and domestic animals.

Surrounding landowners are reminded that dogs must be securely confined, or on a leash at all times. Secondary poisoning can occur if a pet happens to eat an animal that has been killed by 1080 poison. The baiting program will be carried out in accordance with a permit from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

Landowners adjacent to the reserves are encouraged to undertake fox control on their properties to increase the effectiveness of control.

For residential areas fox traps are available for loan, on payment of a fully refundable bond, from the City of Busselton.
A protocol has been developed on cage trapping practices, which can be found by typing ‘fox trapping’ in the search bar on the City of Busselton website.

In rural areas fox control advice can be sought from Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (Ph 9368 0333).
