The City of Busselton is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Barbour to the position of Director Community Planning following an extensive recruitment process.

Mr Barbour brings a wealth of experience and knowledge following a career in both local government and the private sector and is currently the Director Sustainable Communities at the City of Bunbury. Mr Barbour will replace Paul Needham who left the City last month to take up a new position at the Townsville City Council.

Mr Barbour will lead the Community Planning directorate and be responsible for the City's planning, building, development, compliance, health, rangers, community, recreation and youth services.

Mr Barbour said "I am excited to be joining the City of Busselton and working with the community to help shape the sustainable growth of the City. It is such a privilege to be able to continue my career in this amazing region.”

Chief Executive Officer Tony Nottle congratulated Mr Barbour on his appointment, saying “Gary was an outstanding candidate and we are thoroughly looking forward to welcoming him to the City of Busselton and the Executive Team in the New Year.”

“Gary's knowledge of the South West and experience in both local government and the private sector will be extremely beneficial to the City of Busselton, the community and our ratepayers."

Mr Barbour will join the City of Busselton on 29 January 2024.

Since the appointment of the City's CEO Tony Nottle in December 2022, a subsequent organisational review and the recruitment of two other Director positions in August 2023, the recruitment of Mr Barbour completes the establishment of the City's new Executive Leadership Team

Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (2021 - 2031) Key Themes Leadership: A Council that connects with the community and is accountable in its decision making.
