Girls 2 the Front embraces International Women’s Day

Girls 2 the Front was held at the Dunsborough skate park last Friday evening, 8 March 2024 as an amazing way to celebrate and embrace International Women’s Day!

All about empowering young women in the community, Girls 2 the Front provided opportunity to learn some new skating skills, enjoy live music, eat pizza and celebrate International Women’s Day with fellow girls, friends, families and community.

SoggyBones delivered free skate clinics for all levels of experience. The event had a good mix of girls who had been skating forever and those who had never touched a skateboard. Their bravery to learn new skills was well tested.

The live music by local Dunsborough legends ‘The Shruggs’ and Collie’s best export ‘Noise Abatement’ really wowed the crowd and kept them pumping in and out of the bowl. There were plenty of sideline activities too, including face painting and a Words of Wisdom board where you could write some advice for other girls. Creating Communities interacted with local youth to find out what they need and want from the community.

The City’s Youth Development Supervisor, Angela Griffin said, “It was heart-warming to see so many girls and families from the community come together to celebrate how awesome women are.”

“Overall, the night was filled with love, laughter and support for one another. It was brilliant to be a part of such a fun night! A massive thank you to everybody who helped and came down to celebrate International Women’s Day. I am so grateful for the fun-loving, kind-hearted community we have.”

As part of the City’s Youth Program, Girls 2 the Front is in its third year this year. Its success and popularity are sure to see it back again next year.

Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (2021 - 2031) Key Themes Lifestyle: A place that is relaxed, safe and friendly with services and facilities that support our lifestyle.
